The Day Kobe Bryant Played at Rucker Park (2002)

Everyone has their favorite Kobe Bryant moment, but in the city of Harlem New York, the most memberable is when Kobe played a pick up game at the Rucker.

After helping the Lakers win their 3rd straight NBA championship, a month later, Kobe Bryant put on a show at the legendary Rucker Park. No paid endorsements, no media coverage, just the love for the game.

The court is named after Harlem teacher and playground director for the New York City Parks Department, Holcombe L. Rucker. Holcombe started a basketball tournament in 1950 in order to help less fortunate kids stay off the streets and aim for college careers. Now it is home to NBA stars and some of the best high school talent in the country.

NBA Legends such as Julius "Dr. J" Erving became famous from playing at Rucker Park before making it to the NBA.

However, what made this day so special, at that time Kobe Bryant had 3 Championship Rings. Most players at his stature would not have risk suffering an injury. Kobe showed Harlem, and the world, how true champions interact with their fans.
