Body Cam Malfunction In The Murder Of Gregory Gunn By Montgomery Police Dept

Gregory Gunn, 58 year old black man was killed within feet from his home in a west Montgomery neighborhood of mobile heights.

According to the Montgomery Advertiser, Greg Gunn was outside the home he shared with his mother around 3:20 a.m. Thursday, when Officer A.C. Smith stopped him for looking “suspicious.” The Police told the community of Mobile Hieghts, that he didn’t know why the officer deemed Gunn suspicious, but added that all patrol officers were aware of a recent rash of burglaries in the area.

What crime did Gregory Gunn commit?

With the current investigation of Gregory Gunn, the police does not confirm there was a crime committed, he was not leaving the scene of a crime, and he was not in the process of committing a crime.  According to Terry vs Ohio, there was no reason for Officer A.C. Smith to approach Gregory Gunn for any reason.

After A.C. Smith shot Gunn 5 times, 2 in the front, 3 in the back, Montgomery Police Department did not allow Gunn to receive medical attention. The police told family members, neighbors, and paramedics they could not assist Gregory Gun while he lay dying, rapidly losing blood. According to Gregory Gun's brother, Kenneth Gunn, their mother could hear her son cry for help. With life escaping from his body with each second, the police gave an official police order to leave Gregory Gunn unattended. Gregory Gunn was pronounced dead shortly after.

Leaders in the Mobile Heights neighborhood, in Montgomery Al, have requested no white police officers to police their neighborhood. When community leaders requested the body camera footage to be released they were told the camera had malfunction during the altercation. Community leaders are also requesting Officer A.C Smith be prosecuted for first degree murder.
