Sam DuBose Family and University of Cincinnati Reached 5.3 Million Settlement

The University of Cincinnati and the family of Samuel DuBose reached a settlement in the sum of $5.3 million, according to a press release from the DuBose family.
UC will pay $4,850,000 to the DuBose family and will provide an undergraduate education free of tuition and fees for Sam's 12 kids, which is estimated to be valued at approximately $500,000.
Among the other agreed terms, a memorial will be set up for DuBose on UC's campus, along with an apology will be issued by UC President Santa Ono and UC will invite the Dubose family to attend and participate in the Community Advisory Committee meetings. The CAC will provide community input on comprehensive police reform and will review the results of the external audit of the University of Cincinnati Police Department.
UC Police Officer Ray Tensing is accused of fatally shooting and killing Sam DuBose, 43, during an Avondale traffic stop over an alleged missing license tag in July of last year.
Tensing said DuBose tried to pull away and was dragging him, so he shot him in the head.
Police body camera video footage shows Tensing shot DuBose in the head without provocation, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said in July of last year.
