A Ton Of Marijuana Shipped As Carrots Seized At The Border

The Customs and Border Protection office of field operations at Texas’ Pharr International Bridge intercepted 2,493 pounds of alleged marijuana concealed in a commercial shipment of fresh carrots.
CBP officers at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility on Jan. 10 encountered a tractor-trailer arriving from Mexico, according to a news release.
After referring the vehicle for a non-intrusive imaging inspection, CBP officers conducted a secondary inspection on the enforcement dock, which included assistance from a canine team.
Officers seized 2,817 carrot-shaped packages of alleged marijuana with an estimated street value of nearly $500,000, the release said.
“Once again, drug smuggling organizations have demonstrated their creativity in attempting to smuggle large quantities of narcotics across the U.S./Mexico border,” Efrain Solis Jr., port director at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, said in the release.
This case is under the investigation by agents with Homeland Security Investigations.
