Teen Mom In Chicago Graduates As Valedictorian

A young mother defied all odds by graduating at the top of her Chicago high school class.
Trameka Pope gave birth just three days before her freshman year of high school. Next month she will graduate from Phillips High as valedictorian.

She keeps a rigorous schedule in addition to working part-time and raising her child

"I'm a cheerleader, I'm in the National Honor Society, I'm a member in Behind the Paws, I'm in One goal," Pope said.
As a payoff for all her hard work,  she has been awarded more than $80,000 in scholarships and has been accepted to over 20 colleges.

She plans to attend Western Illinois University this fall.

"No matter what background you come from, it doesn't matter if you have a child as a teen, no matter what people say about you," student government association counselor Dawn Jackson said. "You still can make it, and you can become something."
