Students Celebrate Dayton Flyers Sweet 16 Win

The University of Dayton student body is going crazy over the Sweet 16 win, Dayton 82, Stanford 72. Pictures posted on twitter display students flooding the streets with enthusiasm. Some students are jumping off roofs and second story windows onto a pile of mattresses. Students are jumping on cars and setting fires to garbage cans. It's pandemonium in Dayton Ohio and the fans deserve to celebrate.

It's been a while since The University of Dayton has danced this late in March. They won the NIT in 1968, played in the NCAA championship game against UCLA in 1967 and have made seven Sweet 16s.

The Flyers (26-10), who have won 13 of their last 15 games, simply had too much quickness, intelligent passing and inside scoring for the Stanford Cardinals. The Cardinals stunned second-seeded Kansas in the Round of 32. The Flyers are a hungry team on a roll, having defeated in-state rival Ohio State in the Round of 64 and then upset Syracuse. Dayton Defense stunted the growth of Stanford with just 38% shooting.

Senior guard Jordan Sibert from Cincinnati Princeton High School, and transfer from Ohio State, scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, for the balanced Flyers. Senior forward Devin Oliver had 12 points and seven rebounds and freshman forward Kendall Pollard had 12 on 5-of-6 shooting for the Flyers, who shot 48% against the Cardinal zone. They also had 19 assists on 28 field goals.
